"...In celebration of James Stewart's recent 2009 AMA World Championship, Nike 6.0 commissioned garage punk rockers The Black Lips to record an exclusive cover of the classic Willie Nelson song "Mammas Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys."
Nike builds perfect scale replica of Burlington's own infamous BHS rail at their brilliant "greatest hits" park at Mt Seymore. Jump to around 37 seconds in to check it out.
In case anyone doesn't know about this yet, some dj fellow by the name of Tom Caruana just put out a free album, mashing the Beatles with Wu-Tang. It is so many levels of awesome. Cop it HERE-
For a far more mediocre but somewhat listenable attempt at beatlemashing, check out The Grey Album. Jay Z's black album and the beatles white album, mashed by Danger Mouse.
And yeah, I know, your friend is a sweet DJ and does this awesome mashup song with linkin park and the jonas brothers, but my friend is better. Trust me. For some hot mashup fire, ladies and gentlemen, allow me introduce Disc Jockey Extraordinaire, DJ ANUBUS. Check him out next time you are in brooklyn. Lots of freebies on his website too.
-Videos are starting to come in for the second annual Skate and Create and so far, it looks like its gonna be a doozy. First up is DVS with their submission, titled/themed "Wood". Truly dazzling.
If you have never heard of this series, I strongly recommend that you youtube "skate and create" and work your way through all of the entries from last years contest. It is one of the best things to happen to skateboarding since viva la bam went off the air.
-Crutchskate. If it were up to me, this would be called a cripflip to boardslide. Respect.
-Some next level dorkskating, courtesy of shred dudes Halldor and Eiki's collab blog
An excellent blog that also brought back some memories by digging up this gem
-One of the better installments of an excellent new series of new lakai commercials. Hilarious. Check out "Floating Camera" also.
The OG thrasher one is on the top. But you already knew that right? A for effort guys. For more UO douchbaggery check out urban counterfeiters
-The year was 1978. 80's hair metal was about to rip out of the womb where it had been incubating in small clusters since the mid 70s. Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake and probably a few more bands with ümlats and double consonants were born. Maiden had just recorded their first demo. Crüe was rising in popularity faster then the drug, swimming pool and vomit induced body count of their musical predicessors. And in Bloody olde England, people were fuckin' riding skateboards.
-On that note, I present the Skatar-
-Mullen still skates? Who knew. No offense but does anyone care?
And last but not least, check out the "Ollie Buster". Jump to around 1:34 to see how much this thing rules. And by rules, I mean sucks more shit then a metaphore for sucking shit that I can't even come up with.
Previous Thrashin Thursdays HERE and HERE or click THIS for more assorted skatery. Go skate.
New Richie Jackson footy from ipath. If you watch one skate thing today, make it be this. Trust me. The closer trick is potentially in the top 5 craziest stunts ever stunted on a skateboard. For more next level super creative skating, check out the work of: Colin Fiske, Louie Barletta, Chris Haslem, Dave Vey, William Spencer, and Todd Falcon for starters.
-HERE is a sneak peek of the majority of Burton's 2010 line. Items of note: New "V Rocker" camber system introduced, a private stock R. Crumb artist collab and the uninc series gets dropped for new "Easy Livin" series, designed to integrate seamlessly with the rampant gypster uprising. No word on whether dreamcatcher or feather is included. In other related news, dropped and bitter Uninc riders (DCP, JP Solberg, Romain de Marchi) start "YES" snowboards, get SIA booth with stripper.
And here we have Brad Pitt making fun of Lakai/Girl pro Mike Carroll. Seriously. Almost as good as when Owen Wilson "showed up" Mike Carroll in Yeah Right.
And here is a shitty viral ad for the shitty new GI joe movie. With skateboarding.
Former obscure swiss big mountain pro Xavier Rosset spent 300 days completely alone on an equally obscure, remote, uninhabited tropical island. By choice. His only luggage was the clothes he was wearing, a swiss army knife, machete and a video camera (solar powered?). Says Xavier of his only companion on the island, a wee piglit he captured:
Shred City is your first successful drop in on a mini ramp. It is the feeling of the stomp after nailing a back lip on a rail after eight heartbreaking attempts. It is a night of cheap whiskey and good stories with your crew around your kitchen table. It's skating mini until it's too dark to see and headbanging at a metal show even when there's only fifteen people there. It's PBR tallboys for two dollars a piece at the bar and early summer cliff jumping into freezing water. It's the fork holes in your leg you don't know how you got and the girl in your bed whose name you don't remember. It's a local skate art opening with free box wine and the success of distracting security while your friend gets the shot. It's the artistic inspiration you get from a freshly uncapped can of spray paint. It's a car full of your homies, blasting your favorite mixtape. When you are in these moments--the ones you live to create and remember, you are in Shred City--time slows, nothing else matters, and you're complete because of the experience. A new clothing brand from Burlington, Vermont that fits you in every epic moment of your life.
